ESSENTIAL COMPETENCIES (SKILLS)

As a WASC accredited school, Seoul Foreign School has identified a set of Essential Competencies (Skills) which are viewed as being important in developing responsible life-long learners of the 21 st Century. 

 Seoul Foreign School's Essential Competencies are divided into four strands: 1. Learning & Innovation Skills; 2. Information Media & Technical Skills; 3. Life & Career Skills; 4. Spiritual Development.  While each strand contains different skills and areas of development, we believe that all strands are essential in educating life-long learners and as such each of these competencies is reinforced appropriately in every subject at every grade level. Specific standards have been developed to guide the devlopment of each skill. 

1. LEARNING & INNOVATION SKILLS

SFS students think creatively to find innovative solutions when solving problems.

1.2 CRITICAL THINKING & PROBLEM SOLVING 

SFS students are critical thinkers who reason effectively, make responsible decisions, and solve problems.

 SFS Students work together to share and build upon each others ideas in creative ways to solve problems.

 SFS students thoughtfully reflect on their learning in order to identify and work towards goals.


2. INFORMATION, MEDIA & ICT SKILLS

 2.1 INFORMATION LITERACY  

SFS students use research skills to find and use information effectively and responsibly.

 2.2 MEDIA & ICT LITERACY

SFS students know how media is created, are media literate and use it critically to find and share information.


3. LIFE & CAREER SKILLS

3.1 FLEXIBILITY & ADAPTABILITY

SFS students are flexible and know how to adapt in new situations.

3.2 INITIATIVE AND SELF DIRECTION (SELF MANAGEMENT)

 SFS students are good at managing their time and setting reachable goals.

3.3 LEADERSHIP & RESPONSIBILITY

SFS students are responsible and have leadership skills to inspire others.

Academics

The Elementary and Middle Schools follow a US-style curriculum. The British division follows the National Curriculum of England. In the High School Gr. 9-10 students may choose to take the IGCSE Program and for Gr. 11-12 we offer the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Program. Namsan Int'l Kindergarten is a PYP candidate school.

Athletics

SFS athletes develop character, responsibility, dedication, commitment, teamwork, leadership, and experience applicable in all areas of life.  While our teams enjoy winning results in competitive conferences, we measure success well beyond the win-loss column.

Fine Arts

Seoul Foreign School enjoys a long history of rich curricular and co-curricular performing and visual arts programs.  Over 90% of our students are involved in the arts each year and are showcased in our visual arts displays and over 40 annual public performances put on by our music and drama departments.  

Student Life
